FAQs: How does our auction work

How do I bid?

You can view all the live lots on our auction page. For each lot, you will be able to see the current price and when it expires.

Bidding can be done as a guest or as a registered bidder.

The bids are live, so when a successful bid is placed, the value of the lot will increase in real time.

You can bid on as many lots as you like and confirm the amount you wish to donate for any given lot.

For more information about bidding, view our terms and conditions.

Do I need to register or have an account to bid?

No, you do not need to register to bid.

Anyone can bid using our guest bidding option on all of our lots in accordance with the auction terms and conditions.

Registering as a bidder is available and enables you to bid faster when signed in.

What happens if I’m outbid?

If you bid on any lot in the auction the chances are you’ll be outbid at some point - particularly on the most sought after lots!

When another bidder places a higher bid than your currently highest bid, you’ll be emailed (using the email you bid with or registered with) informing you that you are no longer winning the lot due to a new higher bid.

Within your outbid email, there will be a link to take you back to that lot, so if you wish to bid again you can head straight back to the lot and place a new bid.

What happens if I make a mistake with my bid?

If you have entered your details incorrectly or the bid entered was not the amount you intended to bid, please get in touch with the Jersey Christmas Appeal as soon as you can by emailing us and we can correct the error for you.

How will I know if I am the winning bidder?

When a lot batch closes and no more bids can be taken, an email will be sent out automatically to the winners of each lot.

If you believe you have won but an email does not arrive in your inbox, in the first instance, do check your spam / junk folder in case it ends up there.

If the winning lot email isn’t there, do get in touch with Jersey Christmas Appeal by emailing us with your details and the lot in question and the team will be able to confirm if you won the lot and the next steps.

How do I pay for the lot if I win?

On all winning lot emails there will be instructions on how to pay for the lot you have won including a Paypal link, cheque or cash.

When will I receive the items I have won?

On all winning lot emails there will be instructions on how to pay and when you’ll be able to collect the item.

The collection of lots will usually start a few days after the auction has concluded.

Does all my bid go to the Christmas Appeal?

All the money raised in the charity auction goes into providing funding support to those families and individuals who need help over Christmas.

Find out more about the support we give and who benefits from your bids.

I don't wish to bid, is there another way I can support the Jersey Christmas Appeal?

If you don’t wish to bid, there are other ways to support the Appeal.

Pledge a Wedge concludes on the same day as the auction and you can purchase tickets from £10 each for a chance to win an amazing holiday.

Festive Fridays are a fun way to raise money for friends, family and colleagues. Find out how to organise your own Festive Friday event.

If you would prefer to just donate cash to the charity, you can do this through the many bucket and card collections around the island, fundraising events and through Paypal online.
